A two-piece moulding assembly for use as an above-cabinet finishing comprises a base component providing an upwardly directed tongue formed at an obtuse angle, and a decorative component provided with a groove of complementary orientation whereby in an assembled interrelationship the decorative component registers with and is supported by the base component.

A moulding assembly comprising a retainer coupled with a trim member. The retainer may be fastened to a mounting surface, such as a wall or ceiling surface. The trim member may be removably coupled with the retainer to hide the retainer, and provide a decorative outer surface. The trim member need not be fastened directly to the wall or ceiling surface.
